General information

We are a women's organization legally constituted in 1995 that we live in the Galte Yahuachi community, in the rural Palmira parish, Guamote canton, Chimborazo province, Ecuador. We inherited the ancestral knowledge to cultivate the land from our parents and grandparents who were dedicated to the cultivation of barley, potatoes, lupines, broad beans, melloco, wheat, goose, mashua, corn, quinoa and vegetables.

We trust in collaborative work, since it generates better results for all. Therefore, we work together for our community by cultivating the land daily and weaving bracelets, rings, purses, ponchos and girdles.

On September 26, an ash cloud from the Sangay volcano eruption, covered our land, affecting tens of thousands of hectares of crops, making our animals sick, destroying our crops and causing health problems. In addition, the presence of the COVID 19 pandemic has limited and restricted the marketing of our products in nearby markets and fairs, since we do not have enough resources to mobilize. For this reason, we sell our products to intermediaries at prices well below the money we invest to grow them.

We want to face and counteract the effects of ash on crops, have products for self-consumption and promote food sovereignty. For this we have created and developed this great initiative that will allow us to have 15 field schools to train producers in the implementation and management of family produce gardens. To achieve this objective we are counting on your generous help that will allow us to acquire the seeds that will be delivered to the families of the community for their produce gardens.

Main features and goals of the crowdfunding campaign

Support us with the seeds that will start the life cycle of 15 field schools for training in the implementation of family food gardens. We are convinced that this initiative will allow the families of our community to have products for self-consumption and to generate awareness of food sovereignty in our children. This initiative will be shared with other surrounding communities.
The field schools will train us in the management of gardens using the following seeds:
Potato seeds
Bean seeds
Quinoa seeds
Barley seeds
Vegetable seeds
These seeds carry the strength, enthusiasm and intention of essential people like you, who with their contribution and collaboration, support projects and activities for the social development of producers in rural areas of Ecuador.

Why this is important

With your contribution, and the contribution from all of us, we can become the seed that nurtures this project of creating food supply through family gardens and training families in their management through 15 field schools. Seeds that bring together voices and wisdom, which come out of the earth as a starting point to achieve a more just society.

We are sure that we do not walk alone in this dream to make it come true. We know that we have the support of people like you. Today is the opportunity to plant your seed in the fields of our community, where the constant and organized work of women makes the difference for our progress.

Support this project with your seed. Any contribution is welcome. We would appreciate sharing this link with your family, friends and the people you know who may be interested in contributing to this beautiful project of women from the Chimborazo fields.

Team and experience

We are 75 women who are part of the Galte Yaguachi Women's Organization in the rural Palmira parish of the Guamote canton, in the province of Chimborazo, Ecuador. We inherited the ancestral knowledge to cultivate the land from our parents and grandparents who dedicated themselves with love to the cultivation of barley, potatoes, lupines, broad beans, melloco, wheat, goose, mashua, corn, quinoa and vegetables. We believe that associative work generates better results and that is why we work together for our community cultivating the land daily, increasing the leadership of women and developing skills for the production of handicrafts such as weaving of bracelets, rings, purses, ponchos and girdles.
